Abstract

This article describes an Internet QoS visualizer that can display the quality of an application or a network accurately in real time. The proposed visualizer continuously monitors packets at multiple remote points and collects the data with a time stamp. The collected data are analyzed and displayed. By this method, the user can monitor quality variation in real time. This article describes the system configuration and the basic components of the Internet QoS visualizer. The packet inspector in the proposed visualizer aligns the clock accurately, using the wide-area clock synchronization technique. From such a viewpoint, the difference of the clocks synchronized by two packet inspectors is examined in order to evaluate the performance of clock synchronization. The results are presented. © 1999 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt 1, 83(1): 44–52, 2000
