Abstract

A description of the structural design and construction of the pressure suppression type primary containment system and the low pressure secondary containment system for the boiling water reactor of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Station is given. The primary containment consists of a field erected steel drywell of light bulb shape and a torus shaped pressure suppression chamber which are inter-connected by ten vent pipes. The secondary containment structure, the reactor building, is of reinforced concrete construction with a top enclosure of metal panels on a structural steel frame.
