Abstract

Erythematosquamous dermatoses are inflammatory diseases of the skin that are characterized by presenting with erythematous desquamating plaques as the main lesions. Psoriasis is the prototypical erythematosquamous disease. It is a chronic inflammatory disease with skin manifestations in the form of characteristic thick, plaque desquamations over extensive areas. It tends to be associated with systemic comorbidities in the form of joint disorders, fatty liver, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases, and psychiatric disorders. Other frequent dermatoses in this group of diseases are seborrheic dermatitis, pityriasis rosea, pityriasis rubra pilaris, and lichen planus. In this review, the most common erythematosquamous dermatoses are reviewed and an update on their therapeutic management is provided.
