Abstract

Summary Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) added to the culture solution influences the sporangiophores growth of Phycomyces blakesleeanus . IAA in concentrations of 10 and 100 μM induces markedly longer sporangiophores and yields a significantly higher amount of dry weight compared to the control cultures. A method was developed which is suitable for the separation of IAA from phenolcarbonic acids and therefore allows the quantitative determination of IAA in sporangiophores and mycelium of Phycomyces light and dark cultures. A predominant localization of IAA in the sporangiophores of the fungus could be demonstrated.
