Abstract

Mood disorders are common, potentially lethal and very curable conditions and could be easily diagnosed by standard Questionnaires. A huge number of patients that attend cosmetic clinics suffer from mood disorders specially depression disorder. Cosmetic surgeries and related therapies are not financially beneficial for health care system. Because diagnosis and treatment of probable psychiatric disorders can prevent these therapies, finding the main reason of attendance seems useful. In our cross- sectional study we used the Beck Depression Inventory to evaluate the prevalence of Depression disorder among the patients who attend the cosmetic clinic of Razi hospital in Tehran (august and September 2011) 184 cases participated in this study. In our study prevalence of depression disorder were significantly higher than normal population and there was a relation between the prevalence of depression disorder and low educational level. We couldn't find any relation between the prevalence of depression disorder and sex, age and marital status. Due to these results, it is important to rule out psychiatric disorders by screening tests before any cosmetic surgeries or treatment. If it is necessary referring to a psychiatrist will result in improvement of quality of patient's life and helps the patient to recover sooner.
