Abstract

This multiauthor book deals with the complex problem of depression or, as some would say, depressive equivalent in children and adolescents. One of its basic questions is on the relationship, or lack of it, between depression in adults and in youths. It also questions how the different types and degrees of adult depressions fit with syndromes found in children and adolescents. book begins with a chapter by Dr French that looks at the literature pertaining to both childhood and adult depressions. There follow chapters on A Psychobiological View of Depression in Childhood and psychodynamics. The Mirror of Experience stresses the generational repetition involved in depression. Another chapter is particularly aimed at the problems of today's adolescents and why and how they may succumb to depression, including the use of drugs and alcohol; closely related is Object Removal and Adolescent Depression.
