Abstract

The title of this book should not be interpreted to indicate that it is only for dentists. Rather, it deals with a subject that should be of interest and concern to physicians as well, since they too often see patients with oral manifestations of allergic reactions. This book provides useful information on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of such conditions. Written by 21 contributors, there are 17 chapters on various aspects of allergy as they relate to the oral cavity. The sections on reactions to local anesthetics and other drugs, oral and salivary gland manifestations of allergy, contact cheilitis and stomatitis, and the immune response and oral disease should be of particular interest to the physician. There are also informative chapters on the role of delayed hypersensitivity and on the importance of immunologic deficiency.
