Abstract

Angioma serpiginosum is a rare nevoid vascular disorder. It is usually a sporadic condition; however, familial cases have been reported. It occurs due to congenital hyperplasia or ectasia of superficial dermal capillaries. There is a female predominance. The onset is usually in childhood, with 80% of cases presenting before 20 years of age. It is characterized by asymptomatic, discrete, deep red, punctuate telangiectatic macules that may cluster and show an annular or serpiginous pattern. Involvement of the extremities is common while trunk involvement is rare. Lesions following Blaschko lines have also been exceptionally reported. Unilateral nevoid telangiectasia, capillary haemangioma and pigmented purpuric dermatosis are the main differential diagnoses. Treatment can be performed for cosmetic reasons. Pulsed dye laser therapy has yielded good results.KeywordsAngioma serpiginosumBlaschkoidBlaschko linesTelangiectasiaUnilateral nevoid telangiectasiaHemangiomaCapillary hemangiomaPigmented purpuric dermatosisPort-wine stainDermoscopy
