Abstract
A simple method of reducing the divergence of high gain lasers by placing an anamorphic prism beam expander in the cavity is described. Using a nitrogen laser a 37-fold decrease in divergence and 9-fold increase in brightness were achieved. The method can be used in excimer and copper vapour lasers as well.
