Abstract

The IR laser-induced decomposition of methanol vapour has been studied using high-power HF and CO 2 lasers to excite the OH and CO stretching vibrations, respectively. The product distribution following irradiation is found to be pressure- and energy-dependent but does not depend significantly upon the excitation frequency over the pressure range 1–30 torr.
