Abstract

Performance training in India, and more specifically, my training in dance, has been shaped by multiple, overlapping systems of power that created a very specific notion of what counts as dance. In this position paper I examine these systems of power, and what they mean to performance training, through the prism of personal experience. I then articulate what the core aims of my pedagogy is and provide some concrete possibilities to disrupt power structures within performance pedagogy.
