Abstract
This editorial provides an overview of the context behind the issue. The articles originated from papers presented at Ecstatic Truth VII: Decolonising Animation – a symposium held at the University of the Creative Arts in 2023. Part of a series organized by the Ecstatic Truth collective on themes at the interface of animation and documentary in all their most expanded forms, this particular event brought together disparate perspectives on decoloniality in the discipline of animation. A brief introduction is presented to key ideas from the decolonial thinkers who form the theoretical framework for this issue and how these ideas might enliven the thinking and making of animation.
