Abstract

In non-destructive analysis of Pu samples by investigating the event sequences of neutron-detector outputs the loss of counts and the modification of the ‘pair-correlation’ function due to the deadtime of the detection system may become essential. Menlove (1983) and Swanson (1984) empirically constructed correction factors to be applied to the measured count sequence to obtain the real total count rate (and pair-correlation function). In this note we try to provide a theoretical description of the effect of the deadtime on count rates and compare theoretical and empirical deadtime correction factors.
