Abstract

Gas phase deactivation of O 2( 1Δ g) has been investigated and rate constants for benzene and oxygen of 5.3 ± 0.3 × 10 −18 and 2.17 ± 0.12 × 10 −18 cm 3 molecule −1 sec −1 respectively, have been measured. Deactivation by nitrogen is much slower and an upper limit of 3 × 10 −21 was obtained.
