Abstract

A new construction of DC-free error-correcting codes based on convolutional codes is proposed. The encoder employs a Viterbi algorithm as the codeword selector so that the selected code sequences satisfy the DC constraint. Some important parameters, including the free distance, the running digital sum (RDS), and the sum variance are investigated.
