Abstract

SUMMARYIn W. Himalayas, at Mussoorie two cytotypes have been discovered in O. contiguum. The diploid sexual resembles the typical O. contiguum, while the triploid apomict shares with the type only a few characters, which are basic to O. contiguum. On the basis of qualitative differences, it is segregated into a distinct species O. fragile. Furthermore, on the basis of morphological evidence, the diploid sexual O. contiguum and tetraploid sexual O. lucidum are suggested to be the putative parents of O. fragile.
