Abstract

Meiosis and the early cleavage divisions of the fertilized egg were studied in several species of Heterodera. In H. scheichtii, H. avenae, H. cruciferae and H. carotae, two divisions were seen in meiosis and reproduction in these species is probably amphimictic. The diploid chromosome number of H. schachtii, H. avenae and H. cruciferae was found to be 18 but there may be some variation in the chromosome number of this last species. Some observations were made on H. goettingiana.
