Abstract
Journal of the American Society for Naval EngineersVolume 70, Issue 4 p. 705-718 CYLINDER ECONOMICS WITH TODAY'S FUELS, LUBRICANTS AND MATERIALS RUSSELL PYLES, RUSSELL PYLES THE AUTHOR: is Vice President and Chief Engineer of the Van der Horst Corporation of America, having been associated with the corporation since 1942. Educated at George Washington University and Temple University, he has been associated with engine development since graduation from Air Corps Flying School, Kelly Field, in 1922. From 1922 to 1929 he served with the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics as an associate mechanical engineer, subsequently joining the Diesel-Electric Division of Westinghouse Corporation to assist in the development of locomotive engines and later associated with Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company and Clark Bros. Co. in the development of diesel and gas powered engines and compressors. He is a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Society of Lubrication Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, serving on the Internal Combustion Engine Code Committee of the latter. In addition, he served on the Committee on Engine Metals and Wear of the American Society for Metals.
