Abstract

Objective To investigate the differences of quality of life between hematologic neoplasms patients′ parents and parents of healthy people. Methods The observation group were 98 parents of hematologic neoplasms patients who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from February 2013 to August 2014. These parents were divided into two groups according to whether the patients were their only child. The control group were 50 parents of healthy people. All the participants were assessed and compared by the general quality of life questionnaire (GQOLI) between observation group and control group, and offer some countermeasure. Results The four dimension scores of physical function, psychological function, social function, and material life in the observation group were lower than that of the control group (P 0.05). Conclusions The quality of life is significantly undermined in hematologic neoplasms patients′ parents, especially in parents who have only one child. Thus, specific intervention strategies should be developed aimed for these parents. Key words: Hematologic neoplasms; Quality of life; Parents; General quality of life questionnaire; Only child
