Climate change has posed a lot of dangers to economic growth and development. Such dangers include hotter temperatures, severe storms, increased drought, inadequate food supply, poverty, displacement of people and many risks to human life. These dangers occur on earth through human activities which release greenhouse gas emissions. Consequently, this paper aims to look at environmental sustainability through digital transformation, in order to reduce the effect of climate change on economies, businesses, governance, and socio-political outcomes in the 21st century. It also identified how digital transformation plays an increasingly significant role in promoting environmental sustainability. The paper adopted a systematic literature review, a qualitative approach, and a historical analysis. Findings revealed that non-conformity with environmental best practices has gross adverse effects on achieving sustainable development. It was also discovered that non-enforcement of environmental laws and regulations poses a danger to environmental sustainability. The paper concluded that adopting digital transformation will be of great advantage to environmental sustainability thus reducing the impact of climate change and accelerating sustainable development in our economies. This paper recommended strict enforcement of environmental laws and regulations. There should be a paradigm shift in the approach to achieving environmental sustainability by improving the circular economy through digital devices (enabling reuse and recycling), extending the lifespan of software and devices, and promoting technologies that help reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption. Also, the importance of less usage of energy by switching to LED light bulbs and energy-efficient electric appliances in our various homes and offices should be emphasized.

The article aims to investigate the impact of digital technologies on increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions in modern conditions. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the identification and quantitative analysis of the relationship between the level of digitalization and indicators of energy efficiency and decarbonization. For the first time, the DESI index has been used for a comprehensive assessment of digitalization in the context of energy security and sustainable development, establishing a statistically significant correlation between digital transformations and energy efficiency indicators. Additionally, recommendations have been proposed for adapting the international digitalization experience in the energy sector to Ukraine’s national conditions, which is crucial for transitioning to a carbon-neutral economy. The article employs the following scientific methods: data analysis – to examine trends in digitalization and energy efficiency; cluster analysis – to systematize and classify information sources; correlation-regression analysis – to evaluate the relationship between the DESI (Digital Economy and Society Index) and WETI (World Energy Trilemma Index); synthesis and generalization of international experience – to develop recommendations for adapting leading international digitalization practices in the energy sector to the national conditions of Ukraine. The article analyzes the impact of digital technologies on increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions in the modern world. For this, the Google Trends tool was used, which made it possible to analyze the popularity of queries related to digitization and digital transformation over the past five years. Based on data from Scopus® and VOSviewer, the study identified five key clusters: decarbonization and digitalization, energy, energy efficiency, energy investment, and sustainable development. Correlation-regression analysis between digitalization and decarbonization was carried out. For this, the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) was chosen, which allows a comprehensive assessment of the digitalization process in different countries through such indicators as the level of Internet connection, digital skills of the population, the integration of digital technologies in business and the development of electronic services. The study results indicate a moderate correlation between the DESI and the World Energy Trilemma Index (WETI), which assesses energy security, equity, and environmental sustainability. A statistically significant positive relationship between these indices was also established, which indicates the relationship between the level of digitalization and energy efficiency indicators. The practical significance of the article lies in developing recommendations for implementing digital technologies to increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions at the national level. The proposed strategies can be used to improve energy system management, integrate renewable energy sources, reduce costs, and enhance the resilience of energy systems to external threats, including cybersecurity. This article can be helpful for scientists, students, politicians, representatives of government organizations, and enterprises working in the field of energy and ecology. It will be a valuable source of information for those interested in sustainable development, the digitalization of energy systems, and the implementation of innovative technologies to improve energy efficiency.

Introduction.Modern company cases clearly demonstrate the focus of industrial enterprise management on digital transformation and ensuring sustainable development, which are usually implemented independently of each other. However, it should be taken into consideration that the combination of these processes at an enterprise often produces a synergistic effect. The aim of the study is to build conceptual models of interaction and interpenetration of digital transformation and sustainable development in the management of digital development of an industrial enterprise. Methods. The study employed the methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization and graphical modeling. The findings of Russian and foreign researchers published in highly rated scientific journals, as well as data from official websites of organizations were used. Results. Based on current views in the field of digital technologies and the ESG approach, the author proposes conceptual models of integration (interpenetration) of digital transformation and sustainable development of an industrial enterprise. The author's interpretation of the notions "responsible digitaldevelopment of an industrial enterprise" and "sustainable digital development of an industrial enterprise" is presented from the position of directing the organization's sustainable development goals (when focusing on a specific type of responsibility or in the absence of such a preference). The author uses the terms "sustainable ESG development" and "ESG-sustainable digital transformation" to designate the development that meets the ESG principles. It is indicated that the situational prioritization of one or two ESG principles is manifested in the implementation of digital ESG-responsible development and digital ESG-responsible transformation by the enterprise management. Conclusion. The scientific novelty of the results obtained lies in the development of relevant and allowable practical application in corporate management models that take into account the scientific and characteristic concepts of sustainable development and digital transformation of enterprises. The proposed set of terms is complete, since it takes into account all possible combinations of digital transformation and sustainable development of the enterprise. The introduction of the author's conceptual models into the management system of an industrial enterprise will enable organizations to comply with the global focus on digitalization and sustainable development. Orientation towards the proposed models will help managers maintain and strengthen competitive advantages, as well as ensure sustainable growth of their organizations.

  • International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health
  • Zhiqiang Zhou + 3 more

China’s goal of becoming a strong agricultural country cannot be achieved without the modernization and digital transformation of the agricultural sector. Presently, China’s agriculture has ushered in the era of digital economy transformation. The digital transformation of agriculture has played a huge role in improving agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable development of China’s agricultural economy, and achieving sustainable development goals. The deep integration of digital economy and agricultural economy has become an important issue of The Times. This study uses a two-way fixed-effects model and an instrumental variable method to examine the impact of environmental regulation on agricultural total factor productivity. Using the method of mechanism analysis, the conduction path of improving agricultural productivity under the means of environmental regulation is discussed. Therefore, the visualization analysis results based on the panel data of Chinese agricultural enterprises from 2011 to 2019 show that the distribution of digital transformation and productivity level of enterprises is uneven and tends to be stable in space. The empirical analysis results show that there is a direct and significant positive relationship between voluntary environmental regulation and agricultural total factor productivity. The results of mechanism analysis show that, under the means of environmental regulation, digital transformation plays an indirect role in improving agricultural productivity. On the basis of enriching and deepening the theoretical extension of the “Porter Hypothesis”, this study subtly incorporates environmental regulation, digital transformation, and agricultural productivity into a unified framework, expanding existing research.

  • Marwa Elsherif

Climate change is undoubtedly one of the long-term challenges confronting humanity across the globe. Most of the economies have taken serious initiatives that support reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as accelerate financial flows to clean and sustainable projects. This study investigates the influence of green financing on environmental sustainability – represented by climate change mitigation- in Egypt from 1990 to 2021. Augmented Dickey–Fuller (ADF), Phillip-Peron (PP) unit root tests and Quantile Autoregressive Distribute Lag (QARDL) Model were employed for empirical estimates. Results reveal that green financing is negatively associated with greenhouse gas emissions. It is also worth noting that research and development (R&D) investment promotes environmental sustainability, while population growth hinders it. Moreover, economic growth does not play a vital role in climate change. There are still many fences to green finance that need to be addressed. It is recommended that policymakers push the financial sector to adopt a green finance strategy to further the goals of long-term sustainable development.

  • PLOS ONE
  • Haixia Wang + 3 more

The trend of digital transformation fosters enterprise change, helps cultivate enterprises’ own competitive advantages and is crucial to the advancement of sports enterprises’ sustainable development in the framework of the emerging digital economy as a national strategy. However, there have been few empirical studies on the microlevel of digital transformation and its impact on the sustainability of sports organizations. Therefore, the sustainable growth dynamic model is used to construct indicators of corporate sustainability by referencing 48 sports corporations listed on Shanghai and Shenzhen A-shares markets and the New Third Board in China from 2012 to 2021. The intrinsic relationship between digital transformation and the sustainable development of sports enterprises and the underlying mechanism of action are explored by constructing a panel fixed effects model, a chain mediating effects model, and a panel threshold model. The most important contribution is as follows: To provide a useful reference for analyzing enterprise digital transformation, a more complete indicator indicating the extent of corporate digital transformation is built. The micro viewpoint broadens our awareness of sustainable development in sports organizations and deepens our understanding of the interaction model between sustainable development and enterprise digital transformation. This study provides methodical evidence and insights for an accurate understanding of digital transformation for sustainable enterprise development, looking into the "black box" of the mechanism between digital transformation and sustainable business development. The results show that digital transformation significantly aids sports enterprises in their pursuit of long-term sustainability. Heterogeneity tests demonstrate the pivotal role of digital transformation in advancing the sustained growth of sports firms and high-tech sports enterprises situated in the eastern region of China. Regarding transmission mechanisms, the chain mediating effect of enterprises’ digital transformation on improved technological innovation and TFP, which in turn promote long-term business growth, has yet to be validated. Further examination exposes that within the context of the correlation between digital transformation and the sustainability of corporations, there is a single threshold effect based on financing restrictions and operational costs and a double threshold effect based on operational efficiency.
