Abstract

The Geopark Swabian Alb in South West Germany features an outstanding geodiversity. Being one of the largest karst areas in Central Europe, prime examples of karst geomorphosites are frequently found. Worth mentioning are especially tufa cascades and caves. Whereas the geological and biological values of these geomorphosites are acknowledged, although to a lesser extent than those ofbiotopes, cultural values are often neglected. In contrary to Latin and Anglophone countries, where many authors developed approaches to define cultural values of geomorphosites, comparable approaches are only found in exceptional cases in Germany. At the same time most geomorphosites within the Geopark Swabian Alb are characterized by high-grade cultural values.
