Abstract

This article describes the evolution of the concept of cultural landscape in international documents, highlighting similarities and differences between the conception of UNESCO charters, which have changed over time, and the conception provided by the European Landscape Convention, which acknowledges the necessity of addressing issues revolving around landscape. The specific theme of landscape in relation to museums is considered both in reference to the 2015 UNESCO Recommendation on the Protection and Promotion of Museums and Collections, their Diversity and their Role in Society, adopted in November 2015 and in relation to Resolution no. 1 of the 24th ICOM General Conference on the theme Museums and Cultural Landscapes.
