  • H C J Wong + 1 more

China is rapidly developing and many cities have expanded in tremendous scale. To what extent economic development is par with social policies and services support is a great challenge for sustainable growth. Employing designs of social indicators first to evaluate social progress and then to guide social integration has a long tradition worldwide. The Central government of China has just proclaimed the plan of developing the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Greater Bay Area in order to give the economic development of the region another push. Nevertheless these efforts will only be successful if the cities in the region can gradually form into supplementary and complimentary unions. Without a gradually leveling in terms of social welfare and social life, free mobility of professional talents and innovative human resources will be jeopardized. This will make the next phase of development difficult. Malaysia, Singapore and neighboring countries along the Melaka Gateway give us a vivid example in modern history particularly in this century on economic and cultural integration. The historical and continuing presence of the Chinese communities in the Melaka Gateway region makes it a perfect example for us to study and compare respective models of social development.

  • W Ying + 2 more

Vigorously developing emerging marine industries are an important way for China to implement the strategy of “Sea Power Nation”, and improving the ability of port enterprises to prevent financial and tax risks is a key link in accelerating the high-quality development of the marine economy. The research objective of this paper is to construct a reasonable early warning financial model for emerging port industries in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao Greater Bay Area. The research hypothesis is that the original Z-SCORE model and F-SCORE model are not able to accurately predict the financial risk of emerging marine industries. The data of typical port enterprises are utilized to compare the financial risk; after that risk assessment and early warning are carried out. This paper adopts the Delphi method to assign weights to different indicators and utilizes the Analytic Hierarchy Process method to derive a financial and tax early warning model applicable to Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao Greater Bay Area. The results of the study found that the traditional “Z-score model” and “F-score model” are less applicable to the emerging industries in the ports of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao Greater Bay Area. This paper will construct a financial and tax risk control model corresponding to the development of port emerging industries and provide early warning when exceeding a certain threshold to help enterprises develop better. In addition, this paper also puts forward policy suggestions for risk management of emerging port industries from the aspects of system improvement and government-enterprise linkage.

  • Pan Xiao + 3 more

China’s traditional patterns, deeply rooted in ancient farming culture, are an integral part of the nation’s artistic heritage. As China enters a new era of global development, its traditional way of life and local cultures are undergoing significant transformations. This study focuses on the contemporary transformation of pattern inheritance in Shandong Province, a key cultural and economic region in China. Shandong, the second most populous province and one of the top three economically developed provinces, has long been a vibrant center of traditional pattern culture. However, the rapid development and modernization of Shandong have introduced new challenges to its traditional pattern art, while also creating opportunities for its evolution. The local government has implemented policies aimed at protecting and adaptively developing this cultural heritage, resulting in both positive outcomes and necessary adjustments in response to real-world conditions. Additionally, the integration of traditional culture with modern commerce, and the evolution of marketing strategies within the pattern culture industry, have reshaped the image of these traditional patterns. This paper employs qualitative field research to analyze the current state of pattern transmission in Shandong Province, offering new insights into the future trajectory of Chinese pattern inheritance and its adaptation in a rapidly changing world.

Applying interval knowledge to facilitate seaport container throughput volume forecasting
  • Jul 1, 2016
  • Anqiang Huang + 4 more

Substantial studies integrating experts' knowledge with statistical forecasting models have been implemented to investigate a long-lasting and disputing issue, the extent to which expert knowledge can improve forecasting performance. However, many current studies are not capable of applying experts' interval knowledge in forecasting. Experts are expected to be more competent and confident, given that human brains do much better on fuzzy calculation like interval estimation than accurate computation like point estimation. To fill in this gap, this paper first proposes a new methodology incorporating interval knowledge which combines the interval knowledge generated by a Delphi-based expert system with the SARIMA model. For validation purposes, the proposed methodology is applied to forecast the container throughput volume of Qingdao port lying in the Bohai Rim, one of the most dynamic economic regions in China. The empirical results clearly show that interval knowledge, following the proposed methodology, significantly improves the forecasting performance. This finding implies that the proposed methodology has a potential to sharpen statistical models for container throughput forecasting.
