Traditional research on school violence has focused mainly on the later primary education grades and on secondary education, and has barely addressed the presence, characteristics, assessment, and intervention of interpersonal problems at early ages. The aim of this study was to construct and validate a questionnaire that identifies the onset and the most frequent forms of school violence in the first years of schooling in order to design effective prevention programs. The study participants were 195 children from the last year of pre-school and the first stage of primary education. The research carried out demonstrates that the instrument, the Questionnaire for the Assessment of School Violence in the Pre-School and Primary School (Cuestionario de Evaluación de Violencia Escolar en Infantil y Primaria, CEVEIP), has adequate psychometric properties. The instrument includes 27 self-report items that assess seven typologies of violence that occur in the school setting at early ages from three perspectives: observed violence, experienced violence, and perpetrated violence. The results reveal that violent behavior of a low or moderate frequency and intensity is present from the first years of schooling. These levels of violence could be better managed in the educational setting in order to enhance students´ personal development.

Some antibullying interventions have shown positive outcomes with regard to reducing violence. The aim of the study was to experimentally assess the effects on school violence and aggressiveness of a program to prevent and reduce cyberbullying. The sample was comprised of a randomly selected sample of 176 adolescents (93 experimental, 83 control), aged 13–15 years. The study used a repeated measures pre-posttest design with a control group. Before and after the program, two assessment instruments were administered: the “Cuestionario de Violencia Escolar-Revisado” (CUVE-R [School Violence Questionnaire – Revised]; Álvarez-García et al., 2011) and the “Cuestionario de agresividad premeditada e impulsiva” (CAPI-A [Premeditated and Impulsive Aggressiveness Questionnaire]; Andreu, 2010). The intervention consisted of 19 one-hour sessions carried out during the school term. The program contains 25 activities with the following objectives: (1) to identify and conceptualize bullying/cyberbullying; (2) to analyze the consequences of bullying/cyberbullying, promoting participants’ capacity to report such actions when they are discovered; (3) to develop coping strategies to prevent and reduce bullying/cyberbullying; and (4) to achieve other transversal goals, such as developing positive variables (empathy, active listening, social skills, constructive conflict resolution, etc.). The pre-posttest ANCOVAs confirmed that the program stimulated a decrease in: (1) diverse types of school violence—teachers’ violence toward students (ridiculing or publicly humiliating students in front of the class, etc.); students’ physical violence (fights, blows, shoves… aimed at the victim, or at his or her property, etc.); students’ verbal violence (using offensive language, cruel, embarrassing, or insulting words… toward classmates and teachers); social exclusion (rejection or exclusion of a person or group, etc.), and violence through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT; violent behaviors by means of electronic instruments such as mobile phones and the Internet)—; and (2) premeditated and impulsive aggressiveness. Pre-posttest MANCOVA revealed differences between conditions with a medium effect size. This work contributes an efficacious intervention tool for the prevention and reduction of peer violence. The conclusions drawn from this study have interesting implications for educational and clinical intervention.

El presente estudio analiza el abordaje del Trabajo Social frente a la violencia digital en parejas sentimentales en la región Sierra Central del Ecuador. En la actualidad la digitalización de las relaciones afectivas ha dado lugar a nuevas formas de control, vigilancia y coerción ejercidas a través de medios tecnológicos, lo cual representa un desafío emergente para las ciencias sociales. Respecto a la metodología, se aplicó un diseño cuantitativo, transversal y de alcance descriptivo-analítico, utilizando una versión adaptada del Cuestionario de Violencia Digital (DVQ) a una muestra aleatoria de 1.000 personas mayores de edad con experiencia en relaciones sentimentales. Los resultados evidenciaron una alta prevalencia de violencia digital: el 88,3 % de los participantes reportó al menos una forma de victimización, y el 49,6 % presentó victimización múltiple (cinco o más tipos de violencia digital). Se identificaron patrones bidireccionales de violencia, con diferencias significativas según género y edad. Los resultados muestran la necesidad de visibilizar la violencia digital como una problemática estructurada y extendida en las relaciones de pareja, proponiendo recomendaciones específicas para fortalecer la práctica del Trabajo Social en contextos digitales como diseñar estrategias de intervención diferenciadas que incluyan prevención, atención integral y restitución de derechos, considerando la complejidad del fenómeno y las particularidades interseccionales.

Objetivo: identificar la ocurrencia de violencia en el trabajo que afecta a profesionales de enfermería que laboran en el área hospitalaria y relacionar las variables de perfil profesional con este fenómeno. Método: investigación exploratoria, transversal, descriptiva, correlacional, de campo y cuantitativa realizada con 218 profesionales de enfermería que trabajan en unidades hospitalarias de la 8ª Regional de Saúde do Paraná, utilizando un cuestionario sociodemográfico y el instrumento Cuestionario de Evaluación de la Violencia en el Trabajo Sufrida o Presenciada por Trabajadores de Enfermería. El análisis de los datos se realizó con frecuencia absoluta y relativa, utilizando la prueba de Chi-cuadrado con corrección de continuidad de Yates para verificar los factores asociados. Resultados: participaron en la muestra 218 profesionales de enfermería, de los cuales el 44,0% reportó haber sufrido violencia en el trabajo, el 11,9% violencia física, el 47,7% abuso verbal y el 2,8% acoso sexual. Al realizar la asociación, se observó que los profesionales con más de 30 años y que hacen horas extra sufren más violencia en comparación con los demás profesionales. Conclusión: ante lo expuesto, fue posible evidenciar una significativa ocurrencia de episodios de violencia en el trabajo en los últimos 12 meses, siendo la violencia verbal la más referida.

The normalization of aggressive behavior in teenage couples when they are dating is a phenomenon that is currently reaching very worrying proportions. The consequences are creating a serious public health problem and have hence aroused the interest of many researchers as to its causes. Most have centered on the role of the aggressor. However, the processes of aggression and victimization are inseparable, and relegating the victims to the background only contributes to increasing the prevalence, severity, and perdurability of the problem. The objectives of this study were to: (i) identify the types and frequency of abuse that adolescents suffer in their relationships; (ii) analyze the relationship between sexist attitudes, acceptance of violence, and victimization; and (iii) determine predictors of the violence suffered in adolescent dating relationships. The sample comprised 2577 adolescents (55.2% girls) of 14 to 18 years in age (M = 15.9, SD = 1.2). The instruments used were the dating violence questionnaire (Cuestionario de Violencia de Novios, CUVINO) and the Scale of detection of sexism in adolescents (Escala de Detección de Sexismo en Adolescentes, DSA). The results indicate that victims showed high tolerance towards gender violence. Acceptance was greater the more frequent the abuse or aggressions suffered. Regarding sexist attitudes, only those belonging to the benevolent dimension had predictive value. The results also show that the interaction between acceptance of the abuse suffered and the manifestation of benevolent sexist attitudes predicted victimization involving specific forms of aggression.

This study provides psychometric information for the Dating Violence Questionnaire (DVQ), an instrument developed to assess intimate partner victimization among adolescents and youths. This instrument, an English version of Cuestionario de Violencia de Novios, assesses both frequency and discomfort associated with 8 types of abuse (detachment, humiliation, sexual, coercion, physical, gender-based, emotional punishment, and instrumental). Participant included 859 U.S. students enrolled in undergraduate psychology courses in a mid-Atlantic university (M = 19 years; SD = 1.5 years). One-third of the participants were males, and two-thirds were females. Regarding racial identity, around 55% of participants identified themselves as White, 22% as African American, 12% as Asian, whereas 11% selected other identities. Around 9% of participants identified themselves as Hispanic. Confirmatory factor analysis shows that the DVQ achieved adequate goodness-of-fit indexes for the original eight-factor model (X(2)/df <5; root mean square error of approximation [RMSEA] <.080), as well as higher parsimony when compared to simpler alternative models. The 8 scales demonstrated acceptable internal consistency indexes (α >.700), surpassing those found in the original Spanish validation. Descriptive analysis suggests higher victimization experience on subtle aggressions (detachment, coercion, and emotional punishment), with overt abuses (physical, instrumental) obtaining the smallest means; these findings were similar across gender, race identity, and ethnicity. Results of this validation study encourage the inclusion of DVQ in both research and applied contexts.

Explorando la intersección entre infidelidad virtual, violencia, resiliencia y rendimiento académico, este artículo analiza las complejidades que enfrentan los estudiantes universitarios en su vida cotidiana. Para ello, se realizó un estudio instrumental y correlacional. La participación en el estudio abarcó una muestra de 101 estudiantes universitarios. Se usaron como instrumentos el Cuestionario de Violencia Entre Novios (CUVINO), el Cuestionario de la Escala de Percepción de la Infidelidad en las Redes y la Escala de Percepción de Infidelidad en Redes Sociales. Los resultados evidencian que el modelo M3 es capaz de explicar el 94.13% de la variabilidad de los datos, y, por tanto, establecer que el conjunto de las tres variables independientes (violencia de pareja, infidelidad en redes sociales y resiliencia) poseen una relación estadísticamente significativa con el desempeño académico. El estudio destaca la importancia de abordar la violencia, infidelidad y resiliencia, dada su notable influencia en las actividades académicas

Intimate partner violence that takes place in first couple relationships has received increasing attention in recent years, leading our knowledge on different topics to grow remarkably. The objective of this study is two-fold: on the one hand, we compare levels of victimization and tolerance for two samples, from two waves of assessment; and on the other hand, we focus on coherence among victimization and the use of labels such as abuse, fear and feeling trapped in the relationship in both waves. A total sample of 3,844 women between the ages of 16 and 21 took part in the study, 18% in the first wave in 2003–05 and 82% in the second wave in 2011–13. Data were collected using the Cuestionario de Violencia de Novios (CUVINO), a questionnaire that provides information on the prevalence of and tolerance towards eight different kinds of abuse, along with self-labelling questions on the perception of abuse. Results showed a similarity in prevalence and labelling in both waves of assessment, with higher tolerance in the second wave. We discuss the implications of these findings for improving current prevention programs on dating violence.
