Abstract

Electrochemical method was applied to the redox study of copper oxides in alkali borate melts of 0.3M 2 O.0.7B 2 O 3 (M=Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs). Comparison was also made of the materials of the working electrode in addition to Pt to elucidate the redox steps. The two peaks of linear sweep cyclic voltammetry were assigned to Cu(II)/Cu(I) and Cu(I)/ Cu redoxes. The present experimental results combined with the previous data on sodium borate over a composition range suggest that there is a boundary of basicity beyond which Cu(I) behaves differently.
