Abstract

Objective To evaluate CT and MRI features of central neurocytoma (CNC) in order to improve our knowledge to this rare entity. Methods CT and MRI findings in 4 cases of pathologically proved CNC were retrospectively analyzed. Results The patients included 3 males and 1 female, aged 22-43 with the average of 32 years. All lesions were located in the lateral ventricles. Two tumors were confined to the left side, one to the right side and one involved both lateral ventricles. The growth of central neurocytoma was of close spatial relation to the septum pellucidum. All tumors were close to monro's foramen, presented as iso-density or slightly high density on CT and MRI,most of the cases showed iso-intensity or slightly hypo signal intensity on T1WI and hypersignal intensity on T2WI with a well-defined margin. After intravenous administration of gadolinium(Gd-DTPA)all tumors showed a heterogeneous enhancement. Conclusions CNC should be considered when a mass locating at septum pellucidum is found in young adults.CT and MR is helpful in making a preoperative diagnosis.
