Abstract

A series of RAP reactions is considered for the 10 μm transparent metal halides. These RAP actions are independent of the metal in the halide. Comparing non-RAP which uses only HF(g), the RAP actions may be ordered in terms of superiority based on the entropy. Of the five RAP actions chosen (A)–(E), it is shown that the order is, C 2F 4(g)>NF 3(g)>CF 4(g)>COF 2(g)>SF 6(g), before any metal was considered. The superiority over non-RAP is demonstrated with both yttrium, lanthanum, and thorium as examples.
