Abstract

ESR measurements on Gd3+ in single crystals of LaOs2 in the superconducting state show a resolved cubic fine structure spectrum. The cubic crystal field parameter is determined as b4 = −18(2) Gauss. The temperature dependence of the resolved spectra below Tc is analysed in terms of the Barnes-Plefka theory, leading to an exponential temperature dependence of the impurity conduction electron relaxation rate δie in the superconducting state.
