Abstract

Abstract We study ground states of an S= 1 2 frustrated Heisenberg chain in a staggered magnetic field. While the field brings about the transition to the Neel phase, which is characterized by the Gaussian fixed point in the spin-fluid state, a crossover to the behavior controlled by the 2D-Ising fixed point is expected for the dimerized state at finite field. We determine the dimer-Neel phase boundary and perform an analysis to check the criticality.
