Abstract

In this interview, playwright Michael John Garcés discusses Los Illegals, his 2007 play about undocumented workers in Los Angeles. He describes Cornerstone Theater's process of working collaboratively with local immigrants to develop the play as well as his artistic influences (including Lope de Vega's Fuente Ovejuna). Garcés also discusses the birth of the independent theater company comprising immigrants and day-laborers that came out of the Los Illegals project.
