Abstract

Cross relaxation between the 1/2 ↔ −1/2 paramagnetic resonance lines of the two nonequivalent complexes in dilute potassium chromicyanide has been studied, using a technique of cross saturation. The observed dependence of the cross-relaxation rate on frequency and concentration is in good agreement with Grant's theory of cross relaxation. The cross-relaxation rate between spins occupying nonequivalent sites is strongly affected by exchange coupling between nearest neighbors and the large gap between the nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor sites.
