Abstract
AbstractThe large‐scale asymmetries in the release of latent heat in the Tropics should be an important source of planetary waves. According to planetary wave theory, such sources are accompanied by a convergence of eddy momentum flux. These planetary waves may provide eddy fluxes of momentum across the Equator from the winter to the summer hemisphere in agreement with observation.
