Abstract

Maji, B.P., Dwivedi, P., Rao, J.R. and Yadav, S.C. 1999. Cross-antigenicity between ruminal and hepatic paramphistomes and liver flukes of buffalo origin. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 16: 53–57. The crossantigencity among paramphistomes, Paramphistomum epiclitum, Gastrothylax crumenifer, Gigantocotyle explanatum and the common liver fluke Fasciola gigantica of buffalo was studied by Ouchterlony double immunodiffusion (DID) test. When soluble whole worm antigens of paramphistomes was probed against parasite specific rabbit hyperimmune sera, marked cross-antigenicity was in evidence not only among paramphistomes, but also with the common liver fluke of buffaloes. Two to three cross-reactive antigens were common among paramphistomes while Fasciola gigahtica showed a distinct common antigen with the three predominant paramphistomes of buffalo origin.
