Abstract

Of 76 cases of Crohn's disease of the gastrointestinal tract, six demonstrated involvement of the stomach. Roentgenographic findings in the stomach depend on the stage of the disease—inflammatory or cicatricial. In the inflammatory phase radiographs show hypertrophy of mucosal folds, a cobblestone appearance and multiple small ulcerations. The stenotic phase shows tubular narrowing of the distal antrum. Change in stomach anatomy and/or increased incidence of peptic ulcer disease is associated with Crohn's disease of the stomach. Involvement of the stomach by Crohn's disease is not as rare as formerly thought.
