Abstract

Competitiveness and attractiveness of a tourism destination are, today, strongly influenced by the capability to innovate products, services and processes. It is also clear that these issues are only partially due to the capacities of single operators, but are rather a feature of the local system in which they operate. In tourism, so strongly dependent on information technologies, it becomes crucial the possibility to rely upon infrastructures and architectures that are designed with a high degree of standardization in order to focus on the contents more than on the technological forms. This allows the creation of an environment that favors creations able to generate a virtuous circle of innovation. This work discusses these topics and presents a European project, «TOURISMlink», that aims at creating a technological standardized and interoperable platform for small and medium European tourism companies.
