Abstract
The Visual Dictionary of Sociology is a collection of images that illustrate core sociological concepts, created through a multi-year partnership with an undergraduate artist. I have successfully used the images in a first-year introductory sociology course to encourage discussion and deep thinking among students. The process of creating the images provided an opportunity for the student to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts through regular consultation with me, and for me to reflect on my own teaching practices. Drawing on reflections gathered from both of us, I discuss the creation process, the growth we have experienced, and the impact on my teaching.
