Abstract

A novel approach for the design of a multiband co-planar microstrip antenna is presented. This antenna is comprises of composite metamaterial resonators and fed by signal feed. An antenna with composite closed hexagonal-ring resonator and split-ring resonator (SRR) fed by coplanar waveguide (CPW) developed on FR4 epoxy substrate for multi-band wireless communication applications is presented. The design of the composite structure resulted in four discontinuous resonant bands. The numerical results show that the proposed antenna has good impedance bandwidth and radiation characteristics in the four operating bands 3.37–3.94 GHz, 6.98–7.74 GHz, 8.98–9.9 GHz, 13.83–15.82 GHz with return loss of better than 10 dB.
