Abstract

A total of sixty samples of flavored drinking water were collected in Taiwan from March to June in 2001. Preservatives, artificial sweeteners, vitamin C, pH value and degree of Brix were analyzed. For preservatives, only benzoic acid was detected in one sample; others such as sorbic acid, dehydroacetic acid and parabens were not detected. For artificial sweeteners, no dulcin, cyclamate and saccharin that were not allowed in flavored drinking water were detected in all samples. 30 samples were found with acesulfame potassium. Aspartame and acesulfame potassium were found in one sample. 16 samples contained vitamin C with range between 0.05 and 0.28 mg/mL. The pH value of all samples was between 2.7 and 5.4. The degree of Brix of all samples was between 0.3° and 11.5°Brix.
