Abstract

Electrochemical synthesis of polyrhodanine (pRh) on copper electrode surface was achieved using cyclic voltammetry technique in 0.01 M rhodanine containing 0.3 M ammonium oxalate solution. The surface morphology of polymer film was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The corrosion behaviour of pRh coated copper was investigated by means of the change of open circuit potential with exposure time ( E ocp– t), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and anodic polarization curves in 0.1 M H 2SO 4 solution at room temperature. High quality polyrhodanine film with dark purple color was obtained on the copper surface. Corrosion tests showed that pRh coating gives a corrosion protection by exhibiting a good barrier effect against the attack of corrosive environment along long time immersion in 0.1 M H 2SO 4 solution.
