Abstract

The Gutzwiller ansatz is used for calculating various correlation functions of the one-dimensional Hubbard model in a region where the on-site Coulomb interaction U is not larger than the band-width It is found that both the spin-spin correlation function and Copper pairing on neighbouring sites increase with increasing U. However, whereas the former decreases as a function of “doping” (i.e. reduction of the electron density n away from a half-filled band, n=1) the latter increases first and reaches a maximum around n = 0.7 - 0.8.
