Abstract

Literature data on the properties of fractions of different density obtained by liquid centrifuging of metamorphic coal reveal the relation between the Roga index RI and the free-swelling index SI, which describe different aspects of clinkering. A correlation is obtained between RI and SI, whose characteristics depend on the metamorphic stage of the coal. The results suggest that RI should be replaced by SI in dividing coal with a plastic-layer thickness y < 6 mm (D, SS, and TS coal) into subgroups, within the framework of the unified coal classification (State Standard GOST 25543-88).
