Abstract

1111 Background: Serum HER2/neu is extracted from extracelluar domain of HER2/neu tyrosine kinase to serum. We evaluated the correlation between HER2/neu status with immunochemical analysis and serum HER2/neu concentration among Korean women with breast cancer. Methods: Serum HER2 levels were examined among 254 patients with primary breast cancer and 38 patients with metastatic breast cancer by Chemiluminescence immunoassay during preoperative period. All breast cancer tissues were tested by IHC for HER2/neu, and underwent FISH analysis for IHC+2. The cut-off value was 10.2 ng/ml. Results: Mean serum HER2/neu level was 10.1 ng/ml in primary breast cancer. Serum HER2/neu concentration was significantly correlated with tissue IHC analysis (grade 1:9.3±1.7, grade 2: 9.0±1.7, grade 3: 12.2±4.0ng/ml, p<0.001). Increased serum HER2/neu levels were associated with lymph node status (p=0.003) and hormone unresponsiveness (p<0.001), tumor size (p<0.013), age group (p<0.001). In metastatic breast cancer, mean serum...
