Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OH-Vit D) level and chronic low back pain. Methods Sixty patients with chronic low back pain were enrolled in the study. Chemiluminescence immunoassay was used to determine the concentration of serum 25-OH-Vit D. The pain assessment was performed by visual analogue scale (VAS), and the correlation between serum 25-OH-Vit D and pain was analyzed. Results 88.3% (53/60 cases) of patients with chronic back pain had a severe lack (19/60 cases) or lack(34/60 cases) of 25-OH-Vit D. Serum 25-OH-Vit D levels were negatively correlated with VAS (r=-0.488, P=0.000), and no correlation with kind of diseases, course of disease, age and sex. Conclusion The level of serum 25-OH-Vit D is closely related to the degree of pain in chronic low back pain.
