Abstract

Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, which started to be seen in Turkey as of March 2020, collective living spaces, especially schools, were quickly closed and activities started to be carried out from home. Since this new situation is a new and difficult process for geography teachers, as it is for all teachers, geography teachers' views on distance education were needed. This research was carried out in order to examine the teaching carried out by distance education method by geography teachers in the direction of various variables during the Covid-19 epidemic. Within the scope of the research, a measurement tool consisting of three parts was used to get the opinions of geography teachers about the distance education process. Demographic information was used in the first part of the measurement tool, a questionnaire consisting of open-ended questions developed by the researchers in the second part, and the Effectiveness of Distance Education and Geography Teaching Scale, previously developed by the same researchers, was used in the third part. The scale consists of one dimension and 13 questions. 324 geography teachers participated in the research. The qualitative and quantitative data obtained in the research were subjected to descriptive analysis. According to the results of the analysis, geography teachers are not against distance education. However, it has been concluded that distance education will not replace face-to-face education, students do not attend the lessons sufficiently and cannot concentrate on the lesson.
