Abstract

Inspired by the execution of human tasks, incorporating dual arm robotics into human based assembly lines is a promising idea. To improve dexterity and versatility in manufacturing, the human-like dual arm robot capabilities for synchronized and controlled movements are required. In industrial applications, dual arm robots are constrained, taking into account their great advantages, such as agility, flexibility, space savings, reduced tool complexity and gripping devices. In this chapter, dual arm robots are presented in industrial assembly tasks. Outcomes are discussed for dual arm robots, significant improvements and challenges. The development and testing of the dual arm robot technologies is based on a case study of the automotive industry.
