Abstract

Chirped laser pulses are widely used in coherent control of various quantum systems. In order to apply such techniques to terahertz (THz) frequencies, it is desirable to develop a method to generate THz pulses with controlled linear chirp. Difference frequency generation with chirped laser pulse pairs [1, 2], or chirped pulse beating, is a simple way of generating tunable narrowband THz pulses. In our previous study [3], we have derived the direct relationship between the spectral phase of the pulse stretcher and the linear chirp of the generated THz pulse in the chirped pulse beating, and experimentally demonstrated generation of THz pulses with minimal chirp. In this study, we show that the chirped pulse beating can be also used to generate strongly chirped THz pulse by numerical simulations.
