Solar energy is an environmentally friendly energy and the source of energy is available continuously. In this paper, an electrical energy source for residential houses with 1500 watts of power is designed. In the design of this system, 80 AH battery storage and 2000 watt off-grid inverter are used. The off-grid system design in residential houses with 200 wp PV sources and battery storage systems can be used to meet residential electricity needs. In addition, the design of the off-grid system is very suitable for residential houses in areas not covered by the electricity network. In testing this off-grid system, the PV output current fluctuates against changes in the sun’s intensity. To overcome changes in PV output, the control of the battery can quickly regulate the power flow to the load. The charge process and battery discharge are controlled with a voltage sensor. The test results of the off-grid model show that the voltage at the load is always stable, which is 220.8 V. System analysis and design plays an integral part in the development process, which makes it a mandatory and important topic in software engineering education. However, the diverse design concerns and activities involved in deign process make it a great difficult to deliver system design topic effectively. To enhance the learning process, we utilized the mission guides style teaching in our system design course. Students are required to analyze and design a package delivery application system by using suggested open materials and tools. Positive feedbacks are received on stimulating students’ interest. To explore a more generic education pattern for system analysis and design education, we conducted an empirical study based on the information and reflection collected during course delivery process. Students’ presentation performance, assignment quality, final reflection and professor’s evaluation were summarized and analyzed. In this study, we found that (1) teamwork can stimulate students’ learning interest and passion, making class atmosphere active; (2) scenario-based modeling practice can help students improve the understanding of knowledge more quickly and easily; (3) most students prefer (Sino-English) Bilingual teaching method to gain a more professional education. These results indicate the key factors towards a generic education pattern of system design course. It is also expected to be utilized on better courses preparing.

: This technical report describes how to develop a specification of software requirements using the Software Productivity Consortium's CoRE software requirements method from a system requirements and design specification developed using Ascent Logic Corporation's RDD-100. Specifically, this report describes the transition from system design to software requirements analysis when: (a) RDD-100 has been used to create system requirements and design specifications, or: (b) the software requirements analysis activity is to be performed according to the CoRE method. RDD-100 is the implementation of the Requirements Driven Design (RDD) system design and engineering method, wherein the system design is driven by the customer's expectations of system behavior. CoRE is the Software Productivity Consortium's software requirements engineering method. Created to support the development of precise, testable specifications that are demonstrably complete and consistent. An RDD-100 system model contains all of the information needed to begin building a CoRE software requirements specification. Requirements, CASE Tool, Specification, CoRE, RDD-100, System design.

We introduce and demonstrate ROSE – risk-oriented systems engineering, a new approach that integrates risk aspects with system analysis, modelling and design. ROSE is designed to improve the integration and coordination of system design and risk management by fusing robust design paradigms with risk analytic techniques in a model-based environment. While system design and risk management are two critical systems engineering processes, their integration is loose, because too often systems engineers and risk analysts use different semantics, techniques, and tools. This unfortunate disconnects renders risk management efforts detached from system design and management. Object-process methodology (OPM) is a bimodal visual and textual conceptual modelling language and an emerging ISO Standard (19450) for system modelling and design. Making use of OPM, ROSE integrates risk identification, modelling, analysis, mitigation, and control aspects into the robust system design process, and later into system deployment, configuration, and management. Using a commercial airliners defence system against shoulder missiles as a case in point, we demonstrate the principles and benefits of ROSE in risk-oriented systems.

“The window is too big.” “The window is too small.” “It's too loud.” “It's too quiet.” How does system design and development proceed to address the needs of the user when there is a general sense that users — and other stakeholder groups — are dissatisfied with a product, but the feedback is vague, inconsistent, and often times, conflicting? This situation occurs quite often, when designers and developers have only sparse, anecdotal information available to them about user response to a system, and there is no systematic collection or interpretation of user feedback. This paper uses a case study format to present Investigation-Analysis-Solution (IAS)™, a methodology for systematically collecting, quantifying, evaluating, prioritizing, and incorporating human factors feedback into the system design — or redesign — process. While the example project was executed for a large-scale military system, the IAS method and tools presented are applicable and transferable to any system development, design, or redesign effort.

This article provides a process for system architecting that incorporates a holistic approach for architecture design space characterization by integrating decision alternatives in functional, physical, and allocational design spaces and accounting for interactions. System architects are faced with numerous decisions for system form, functions, and operations when defining a system architecture. Systems designers are tasked with selecting design options which provide the necessary functionality in support of the architecture. Since modern systems, especially system‐of‐systems, are composed of interacting and interwoven functions and elements, it is imperative to holistically evaluate variations in the system architecture and system design, and discover interactions among and between architecture decisions and design decisions. In this article, this design space characterization is made an integral part of the system architecting process and a set‐theoretic framework is developed for managing an extensive design space. The design space characterization problem is formulated as identification of the significant decisions variables and quantification of their impact on the system objectives. A Design of Experiments framework—utilizing Analysis of Variation (ANOVA) and Range Tests—is presented to holistically characterize system architecture design space including the interactions between system form, function, operations, and design decisions.

The general concept of object oriented does not guarantee the correctness, completeness and consistency of system design. It is more important to apply the object oriented method. The software system analysis and design based on computer software is a technical difficulty, which is the intersection of system engineering and software engineering, which has a decisive influence on the whole system development. An under design system will cause the system to develop a lack of sufficient basis for each subsystem, need a large number of supplementary design and change design, waste a lot of manpower and material resources and other serious problems. In this paper, we will propose a method of object oriented method for system analysis and design. Keywords-Software Engineering, System Design, Object Oriented

The management of software development for single and dual processor system designs is making progress towards becoming a mature discipline. A good part of the progress can be attributed to the development and use of standard system and software engineering methods and design principles. However, new computer system designs (networking, distributed systems, embedded systems, multi- and coprocessors, fault tolerant systems, etc.) will create new challenges for managers of software development. The reason for this effect on management is that some of the system and software engineering methods and design principles developed for single and dual processor system designs are not valid for these newer designs. Some of the issues that software development project managers will need to cope with are:1. Life cycle model adjustments2. Rapid prototyping activities3. Different hardware and software phasing4. Increased tool development5. New trade-offs and hybrid developments of off-the-shelf software and newly developed software6. Development of concurrent design principles7. New software design principles to support fault tolerance and the use of new memory technologiesThe above items are just now being recognized as problems, and solutions for them either do not exist, or are not widely known. These problems create a series of new challenges that managers must deal with for software development based on the new architectures and requirements. The purposes of this paper are to discuss these issues and to identify some solutions that can serve in the interim as the technology changes to meet these new challenges.

Collaboration on computer systems is totally different from that in face-to-face environment. Even though scientists are working hard to provide systems that provide virtual environment to make it easy, there are requirements for collaborators to know the basic model and basic working modes of collaborative systems. This paper will concisely introduce OMCS (Object Model for Collaborative Systems) that is a previously-composed collaborative system object model. Then, it discusses the basic components of ordinary collaborative systems. By discussing possible choices for different components of this model, we demonstrate the design of a collaborative system called Multimedia Co-Authoring System (MCAS). In the discussion of MCAS system, Petri nets are used to describe the dynamic properties. By these Petri nets, we can also know the basic working modes of collaboration on such collaborative systems. From this practice, this paper concludes that Petri nets can provide a uniform environment for modeling, formal analysis and design of systems. They can be used to describe and check errors for a system design.

: To provide a vehicle with the ability to hold position in a coastal environment requires a significant amount of onboard power. This power requirement either forces the vehicle size to increase to allow for suitable mission duration or reduces the amount of time the vehicle has to conduct its mission. To relax the power requirement, we propose to develop vehicles that can employ a bottom-sitting or soft grounding behavior. To obtain this behavior requires vehicles that have the capability to selfballast. By optimally positioning itself and sitting on the bottom, the AUV can be placed in a sleep mode, with only monitoring sensors awake, thereby conserving power. In this paper we present the preliminary work conducted in the areas of simulation, design and testing of a Variable Buoyancy System (VBS) for an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). This buoyancy system will be integrated into the new NPS AUV which is currently under construction, to support the upcoming joint operations with the University of Lisbon's MARIUS vehicle. We will discuss the tradeoffs and analysis that went into the design of the system, as well as the challenges associated with the integration of such a behavior and system into the vehicle.
