Abstract
The continuous regulation of a wide-range dc voltage is an emerging requirement for the modular multilevel converter (MMC) extended to the medium-voltage direct current (MVDC) distribution network. Under this requirement, a full-bridge MMC (FB-MMC) is an attractive medium-voltage converter solution due to the full-bridge sub-module (SM) can output the negative voltage. However, the FB-MMC applied to the MVDC power distribution network cannot achieve a wide-range continuous regulation of dc voltage due to the limited number of SMs and the coupling relationship between the capacitor voltage and the DC voltage of the conventional control strategy. Therefore, a novel control strategy is proposed for the medium-voltage FBMMC in this paper to ensure that the capacitor voltage of SMs is constant when the dc voltage is continuously regulated in a wide range. Simulation results based on Matlab/Simulink validate the correctness and effectiveness of the presented strategy.
