Abstract
Morphine HCl dissolved in artificial CSF or artificial CSF were administered intrathecally on the dorsum of the lumbar enlargement in rats via ALZET® osmotic minipumps delivering 0.5 μl/h for 14 days. Significant analgesia as assessed by the hot plate test was observed for 3 days after the start of drug administration for both morphine and CSF. No analgesia was found in rats where the catheter was located away from the dorsum of the lumbar enlargement.
