Abstract

A. A. J. (Tony) Marley is a Professor of Psychology at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, where he has been Chair of the Department of Psychology at McGill since 1992. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology in 1965 from the University of Pennsylvania. His recent research interests have been in mathematical and computational models in the areas of cognitive science, especially choice, perception, and psychophysics. He was the Editor ofthe Journal of Mathematical Psychologyfrom 1980 to 1985, and he served as President of the Society for Mathematical Psychology in 1994–1995. William H. Batchelder is a Professor of Cognitive Sciences and Director of the Institute for Mathematical Behavioral Sciences at the University of California Irvine. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology at Stanford University in 1966. His current research interests are in formal models and methods in the areas of cognitive psychology, cultural anthropology, and social networks. He served as Editor of theJournal of Mathematical Psychologyfrom 1975 to 1980, and he served as President of the Society for Mathematical Psychology in 1989–1990.
